About Jodhpur
JODHPUR, as eligance of traditional royal sophistication underlies within the name of the city that once had been the capital of the princely state of marwar and is now the second largest city of Rajasthan.It was founded and establised by Rao Jodha. The city that streches and is spread out around the beautiful Mehrangarh Fort, that stands out to be one of the most attractive tourist places of the city is a cluster of many more Historicaly Attractive places a few of them are
Jaswant Thada : The beautifuly layed out white marble pyramid was build in the memory of Maharaja Jaswant Singh II which has four cenotophs denoting and depecting the acts of bravery and generosity of the four successive rulers.
Mehrangarh Fort : Titled the heart of the city, this fort stands on a steep hill that peeps through the entire city.This Fort is one of the best in India with its exquisitely latticed windows, carved panels, elaborately adorned windows and walls of Moti Mahal, Phool Mahal, Sheesh Mahal. A collection of Musical Instruments, Palanquins, Royal Costumes, Furniture and the cannons on the fort's ramparts are well preserved.
Umaid Bhawan Palace : The grandeur depecting palace that innitialy came out as the idea of making the people of the city employed is spread out marking a stupendous example of the indo – colonial art and incorporating the decor style from 30s.
Osian Temple : Situated at the outskirts of the city, is 65 kms away from Jodhpur. The temple is basically a piligrimage cetntre for Brahmancial and Jain religions.
Siddhnath Temple : Which was made by a saint named Guarishanker, later known as Nepali Baba. It is said that Nepali Baba, who had only 4 fingers in both his hands an feet constructed this temple by cutting the stones down.
Ganesh Temple : The temple that has a eight feet high and five feet wide statue of Lord Ganesha is situated on the hills of Ratanada.
Mandor : Towards the north of Jodhpur is the ancient capital of Marwar, Mandor. It is just 8 Kms from the city. Main attractions of the place are hall of Heroes where sixteen huge figures which have been carved out of a single rock, the shrine of 330 million Gods and the royal cenotaphs. This area is of immense historical importance but what makes it worthy of a visit is the Hall of Heroes. Sixteen gigantic figures carved out of a single rock depicting popular Hindu and folk deities stand there in bright colours and are well maintained. But one can not miss the caves in crags and the sprawling gardens, which are now shelter place for monkeys and peacocks. Greenery of the place makes Mandor, in true sense, an oasis.
